Occupational Health Toolkit
In this Toolkit you will find information your organisation needs to know about Occupational Health, employment and disability.
Some of the resources in this collection are open to all. Members and Partners enjoy exclusive access to the full range of Knowledge Hub resources and additional membership benefits.
Occupational Health (OH) is a field of medicine that is unique within healthcare because it focuses on work and the workplace. It is not based in the traditional healthcare settings of hospitals and GP Practices.
This toolkit is split into four sections.
- Section one is an overview of the role and remit of OH.
- In section two, we then look at how OH can help with disability inclusion and support disabled employees specifically.
- In section three, we take a more in-depth look at how to get the best out of your OH service.
- Section four covers top tips, the OH-related findings in our ‘Great Big Workplace Adjustments Survey’ (GBWAS), frequently asked questions, and a thought piece from an ex-OH professional.
Toolkit resources
Section 1: What is Occupational Health
Occupational Health can perform a wide range of services for an organisation. This section introduces the Occupational Health team, their purpose, and how they work.
Section 2: Occupational Health and disability
Disabilities and long-term conditions come in all different forms. Their duration, severity, and impact on an individual are all unique. This means that some disabled people may need a more personalised approach and adjustments to remove or reduce the barriers they face at work.
This section covers the most common interactions disabled people may have with Occupational Health.
Section 3: Getting the best from your Occupational Health service
This section discusses what organisations should do to get the right Occupational Health services, and how to work with them to get the best results.
Section 4: Research findings and recommendations
This section outlines findings related to Occupational Health in our Great Big Workplace Adjustments Survey.
We also discuss how we recommend avoiding some of the issues that came out of the research.
