Keep Britain Working Review

The government commissioned Charlie Mayfield to lead an independent review titled ‘Keep Britain Working’. which aims to identify and make recommendations to the government on:

  • What more employers can do to improve economic inactivity related to ill health and disability.
  • What the government needs to do to “encourage and support” people living with ill-health and disability in work.

Business Disability Forum worked with 140 Members through our Work and Health Policy Forum to respond to the engagement phase of the Review

Our paper

Our paper covers the following topics and can be downloaded below:

  • The barriers and challenges employers experience when supporting employee health, disability, and returns to work.
  • The clarity employers need on what they should be providing and what the government should be providing when it comes to providing workplace adjustments.
  • The role of fit notes and how helpful employers find them to manage employees’ absence and arrange a return to work.
  • The role of rehabilitation, Private Medical Insurance and Group Income protection when an employee becomes unwell and needs time off work to recover.
  • Managers’ and employees’ experiences of occupational health and its overuse versus when it works at its best.
  • When work is not good for people and the lack of policy attention on work-related illness and stress.

We would like to thank all of our members – employers and disabled people – who worked with us on this project. Updates will come via the Work and Health Policy Forum.
