SME Toolkit

Welcome to Business Disability Forum’s SME Toolkit, funded by The City Bridge Trust.

Here we present practical advice and guidance for all small and medium-sized businesses and start-ups on what being disability smart means and how it can benefit your organisation.

Disability and your business

Understanding the needs of disabled people is important. 1 in 5 people in the UK have a disability. This means that many of your employees, customers and clients may have a disability – even if they have never told you about it.

Opening up your business to disabled people can help you recruit and retain valuable staff. It can also help you increase your customer base.

Using this toolkit

Disabled people often experience barriers both in the workplace and as consumers. The resources in this toolkit provide advice on how you can help remove these barriers and make your business more accessible and inclusive to everyone.

The resources are grouped under three headings:

  • recruiting and supporting disabled employees
  • welcoming disabled customers and service users
  • creating inclusive physical and digital environments.
