Welcome to Business Disability Forum’s Recruitment Toolkit. This is a resource designed to provide advice and guidance about how recruitment processes and policies can be made inclusive for disabled applicants and candidates.
What does the Toolkit cover?
This Toolkit covers the whole process of recruitment, including:
- Job design
- Attraction and selection
- Assessments and interviews
- Adjustments
- Communicating with applicants and candidates
- Making the job offer
- The law
- Onboarding
- Managing new starters.
The advice is written for all our Member and Partner organisations, in any sector or industry, and of any size.
How to use this Toolkit
The guidance and support you need will depend on what you want to achieve and how far you are in your disability inclusion journey. You may want to review your recruitment processes holistically, and assess every area. Other organisations may prefer to focus on one or a few areas at a time.
You can search for specific areas using the search function on the Toolkit landing page, or you can browse the Toolkit by section. You could even read it from beginning to end – although you should make sure you have plenty of time set aside! Feel free to dip in and out of the resources as required, and bookmark ones you want to return to later.
Contact us
Like all our Toolkits, the Recruitment Toolkit is designed to support your organisation in conjunction with the rest of the services BDF has to offer.
These resources might serve as an introduction to the issues and a guide to the areas and issues to consider. You can then work with our Advice Service and your Disability Business Partner or Senior Disability Business Partner for tailored support applying this advice to your organisation.
You can also contact us to let us know if there is anything we have missed or if you have any comments about how we could improve the Toolkit. We would also love to hear from our Members and Partners doing innovative work in this area, to understand how inclusive recruitment is being done. Contact enquiries@businessdisabilityforum.org.uk to get in touch.
