Changing the image of disability campaign
Disabled people are often underrepresented and misrepresented in the images we see in content. As part of our ‘Changing the image of disability’ campaign, we are encouraging the media to think about the images they use to represent disability and disabled people.
To support you, we have created the following free resources for media organisations (journalists and picture editors):
- A collection of 60 images from our new Disability Smart Image Bank (for members of media organisations only). Complete the form below to access the images.
- Guidance to help you choose, commission and use images in a disability-smart way
- Ten principles of disability-smart imagery
- Watch our webinar which walks you through the campaign and guidance
“Great advice in the guidance, some of which seems obvious but easy to miss without being told. Informative but not too long and complicated. Very useful and I look forward to being able to share it with my colleagues.” [National journalist]
“There is information available for writing about disability and language use but, that I know of, no media guidelines on use of images. This guidance will be very helpful for myself and also as something to pass on to editors when I am not in control of the images that are used with my articles.” [Freelance journalist]
