Georgina Colman: Purpl Discounts

Purpl Discounts is the UK’s first disabled discounts site. Purpl’s founder, Georgina Colman lives with MS and ADHD and when she became disabled, she realised how expensive life is for those with a disability. She noticed how there were student discounts and NHS discounts but nothing for disabled people and so she founded Purpl Discounts.

Her aim was to create something that would mean real life savings to offset those extra costs of the disability price tag. (Scope research puts this figure at £1,010 a month.)

Alongside this, Georgina created a community for disabled people, through a hub for people to talk and share. She has also produced a whole range of guides on disability benefits and money saving tips.

Purpl launched in July 2024, and within 6 months they now have over 20,000 verified disabled members and are working with well over 200 brands to create exclusive discounts for their members. Purpl work with large brands including Morrisons, Sky and easyJet, but also small disabled-led businesses. Purpl donate 20% of promotional activity fees to charity partners. In Q1 their first charity partner is Spinal Injuries Association.

Purpl is a very small team and Georgina immediately hired two disabled women in marketing and social media. She aims to advertise every upcoming role to the disabled community first, with an important point being that if the person is not disabled themselves, that they have experience of disability.

She puts inclusive working practices into place for staff, with remote working and flexible working an important part of the process. As a disabled woman herself, Georgina has a level of understanding that puts staff at ease to discuss their accessibility needs and personal requirements to work to their best ability.

Georgina Colman wants to improve the lives and finances of every disabled person in the UK through Purpl Discounts. She is an inspirational leader who puts morals before money to fight for a fairer society for disabled people.
