Providing Disability Smart IT support

January 30 | 10:00 am 12:30 pm

THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL. Register below to join the waiting list.

This interactive workshop will explore the issues that IT staff might encounter when supporting employees who have access requirements. This includes using assistive technologies as well as building staff confidence in providing such support.

During this workshop, we will explore:

  • What is a disability and access requirement and what are the key issues for IT support staff?
  • The barriers staff with access requirements face when seeking support to address IT challenges.
  • How IT should support staff to discuss issues to ensure a professional and expert service.
  • The types of assistive technologies used and how can IT staff support its users.
  • The challenges when using Jaws screen readers.
  • The key issues to be considered in terms of communication, etiquette and language.

The 2.5 hour online workshop will be facilitated by Rick Williams and Graeme Whippy, Business Disability Forum. The session will explore and discuss how the issues apply and how they can be addressed. Questions and discussions will be encouraged.
