UNIDPD – what we’re doing with our membership

International Day of Person with DisabilitiesOn United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (UNIDPD), here’s a quick round-up on just some of the great things we are doing with our Members and Partners to mark the day.

  • Speaking at Network Rail’s celebratory event as the first of four training sessions that we are delivering for them over the next four months on workplace adjustments. We will be talking about disability in general, workplace adjustments and responsibilities as well as setting the right culture.
  • Presenting on a webinar to The Co-operative Group about Disabilities that are not immediately visible
  • Taking part in a webinar alongside the HR Director of Walgreen, Boots Alliance, on Disability Inclusion and how BDF membership can support with this.
  • Hosting and speaking at a webinar for MoD to talk about support for people managers.
  • Speaking and chairing a panel session for an event hosted by Lord Holmes to look at what has happened around public appointments and disabled people two years after his wide-ranging review.
  • Speaking on a panel for Lloyds Banking Group, hosted by David Oldfield, Group Director, Commercial Banking on disability in 2020, alongside panellists including Hector Minto from Microsoft.
  • Hosting the European leg of Purple Light Up and leading a panel session with Andy Kneen of Shell and Andy Garrett of GSK to showcase the work of our Global Taskforce.
  • Speaking on a virtual panel event with Sarah Healey, the new Civil Service Disability Champion and Ben Merrick, Deputy CS Disability Champion.
  • Running online sessions to talk about disability inclusion and why it matters in the workplace for:
  • Danone – focusing on international examples of great disability inclusion within businesses.
  • Citizens Advice Bureau – focusing on a positive message around reasonable adjustments, and neurodiversity, and volunteer management in, as they have a large number of volunteers who are not covered by the Equality Act, unlike employees.
  • Speaking on a panel debate for FCDO
  • Presenting the Getting Started Awards at the RIDI virtual awards ceremony (for which we were a judge).
