Getting Started on disability smart journey: Lloyds Banking Group

Case Study: Lloyds Banking Group and their Personal Development Programme

We spoke to Lloyds Banking Group about their Personal Development Programme, and how it’s supported them on their disability smart journey.

Firstly, what is the Personal Development Programme at Lloyds Banking Group?

It’s a three-day face to face workshop, facilitated by two of the UK’s leading disability consultants, aimed at colleagues with disabilities or long-term health conditions from all grades. The PDP is a holistic training programme which focuses on the specific issues our colleagues with disabilities and long-term health conditions may well face both in work and sometimes at home with family & friends, in conjunction with their individual needs and plans for the future. The programme looks at a number of things but including the journey that we’ve been on societally, implications of disclosing, work life balance, how to manage an impairment and create a positive impact, personal effectiveness, and action planning.

We aim to create a positive and supportive environment in which delegates can have frank and constructive discussions about disability and its impact on their lives as well as identify workplace goals and skills they might need to develop such as confidence, assertiveness and influencing skills. We hope that the Programme helps with this.

Colleagues are asked to complete a small amount of work ahead of the course to allow them to make the most of their time together. In more normal times it also includes a supper with an after-dinner speaker, providing colleagues with a chance to interact socially too, and build their networks. We hope to return to this element before long!
