Technology Showcase: Disability-Smart Stories

Technology Showcase: Disability-Smart Stories and hosted by PwC

Hosted by PwC

This Technology Taskforce Showcase will be looking at personal stories of people with disabilities and how technology has helped them to overcome barriers.

We will hear about the lived experience of individuals from within business and discussing where technology has really made an impact and where it still has some way to go.

This will all be supported by an exhibition area where you can find out about new and emerging technologies to support your business in becoming Disability-Smart.

Our first guest speaker, Robert Nolan, Chair of Deafblind UK,  will be sharing with us an insightful account of living and working with Deafblindness.

Robert has been deaf since birth and is gradually losing all of his sight. This truly motivating talk gives an insight into his infectious ‘glass half full’ approach to life as he shares personal stories about the good times and the less good times. He explores attitudes towards disability, how technology has enabled him along the way and how we can all strive to become more inclusive.

Our second guest speaker, Tracey Lenthall, is HR Director at PwC and has had a varied career to date in HR.

Tracey is passionate about many things, and one which very much derives from her disability is to support society’s change on inclusion and empowerment of all minority groups including those with a disability.

Our third guest speaker, Michael Vermeersch from Microsoft will be sharing his personal experience of growing up with a neurodiverse condition and why he can’t do anything unless it’s in his electronic calendar.

As Digital Inclusion Lead at Microsoft, Michael observed that barriers to Digital Transformation had to be overcome to reach promised business value. Accessibility is one of these barriers. Michael’s work evolves around embedding inclusion in the transformational journeys of customers.

Recently, Michael received Microsoft’s highest Platinum Club award for his work in disability inclusion.

We will also lead a panel session with all of our speakers where our audience will have the opportunity to ask questions and take part.

We will also welcome a number of organisations to showcase new and innovative technology which will help make your business disability-smart! Whether it is day to day, events or in your personal life, these companies will have something for you.
