Supreme Court rules that employment tribunal fees are unlawful

Following this morning's Supreme Court judgement that employment tribunal fees are unlawful, our Head of Campaigns, Resources & Legal Bela Gor, has issued the following statement:

"Business Disability Forum welcomes the decision of the Supreme Court in abolishing fees for tribunal claims and the finding that charging higher fees for discrimination claims is indirect discrimination. Legislation can only be really effective in supporting change and transforming the lives of disabled people if people who are discriminated against can afford to exercise their rights. Rights are not real rights unless disabled people are able to enforce them. High fees deter some of the most disadvantaged and lowest paid members of our society from accessing justice and employment”.
