Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE)

The Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE) is the UK’s leading authority on inclusive design. CAE’s aim is to help secure a built environment that is usable by everyone, including disabled and older people.

Business Disability Forum and CAE have a longstanding alliance which aims to extend the level of expertise and knowledge available to its members using Business Disability Forum’s Disability Standard management tool.

With a focus on the adjustments and premises criteria, CAE is able to provide expert consultancy services including access audits of existing sites covering staff and public areas, workplace assessments for employees with access requirements, design appraisals on new or refurbished premises, including masterplan reviews and working as an integral part of a project design team.

CAE is also the leading training provider for inclusive design in the built environment with over 40-years’ experience, and has a comprehensive range of bestselling publications which are user-friendly design guides for access professionals and for those with a vested interest in designing for accessibility. For third sector members in the Greater London area seeking to improve the accessibility and sustainability of their premises, they can provide support with funding applications to the City Bridge Trust.
