Business Partner, Organisational and Leadership Development at NHS Education for Scotland

Jen Calder

Jen is a Business Partner in Organisational and Leadership Development in NHS Education for Scotland. She does work surrounding team development, facilitation, training design and delivery and equality impact. In her previous role, she was a part of the pilot of the Professional Careers programme run by the Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living, placing disabled graduates in to placements within NHS Scotland. Jen applied to the programme after graduating from The University of Strathclyde in 2014 with a BA in Arts and Social Science, and found herself struggling to access meaningful employment.

Like many other disabled people, Jen has faced several systematic and personal barriers in accessing education and employment, but was given a life changing opportunity by GCIL and NHS Education to kick start her career in her chosen field. She has credited the consistent support from GCIL and NES throughout her placement for her success on the programme.

Throughout her life, Jen has been an activist and campaigner for social justice, human rights and gender equality as well as an active volunteer in organisations such as Covey Befriending supporting young offenders and challenging mental health stigma amongst young people. Her keen passion for equality combined with her innate interest in people and how they work has brought her to her career in OD, where she hopes to continue.
