Press release: BT’s disability advocate confirmed as speaker for conference

10 March 2017

London, UK: Business Disability Forum is delighted to confirm that Hari Sundaresan, a passionate advocate of disability-smart workplaces, will be speaking at its annual conference on ‘Disability-smart suppliers and partners’ on 11 April 2017.

Hari Sundaresan is Chief Procurement Officer at BT and is committed to leading his team to build  contracts and partnerships that give due weight to disability and accessibility. He recently became Business Disability Forum’s newest board member, joining in 2016. As a key driver of good practice, Hari is an expert on suppliers and partners and has a particular interest in the ways these deals can promote accessibility.

After becoming BT’s Disability Champion Hari shared his personal story of colour blindness, which he had kept hidden during the early part of his career. His experience informs his work, and he has pledged to set up and chair a forum between procurement teams in organisations like BT and key suppliers in order to drive forward inclusive policy and practice. Hari sees BT as perfectly placed to become a centre of excellence in this area and to aid other organisations in following suit.

Hari Sundaresan will join a host of other speakers at the conference, including Penny Mordaunt, Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work; Jane Hatton, Founder/Director, Evenbreak; Pete Holliday, Managing Director, Sopra Steria Recruitment; Nasser Siabi, CEO, Microlink, Alastair Campbell, Corporate Business Manager, Text Help plus many more.

Diane Lightfoot, Chief Executive Officer of Business Disability Forum, said:

“We’re very excited to have Hari Sundaresan speak at our conference.  Making the business-supplier relationship productive and inclusive brings both personal and business rewards and yet it remains a neglected area for many businesses who are otherwise exceptional in their disability performance. This is why we are delighted that Hari, a visible champion for best practice in this space, will be joining us.”
