Business Disability Forum launch new line manager guide ‘mental health at work’

mental health at work cover

Sponsored by the Environment Agency, ‘mental health at work’ is the latest addition to our best-selling series of line manager guides.

‘Mental health at work’ was born as a result of the growing queries we frequently receive regarding how best to manage mental ill health in the workplace. One in four of us are likely to experience mental ill health each year, yet the subject is still a workplace taboo.  The guide dispels the myths about mental health in the workplace and provides practical advice for line managers. We conducted extensive research with our members to produce the best practice guide, and it contains several real-life case studies.

Bela Gor, Legal Director, Business Disability Forum and author of the new guide said, “Line managers tell us that they don’t know how best to support a colleague with a mental health condition, in fact it accounts for around 20% of calls to our advice service. ‘Mental health at work’ is full of myth-busting and practical tips on how to get it right. Our publication will challenge you first to look at your own attitudes and assumptions about people who have mental health issues. It will also help you to look after your own mental well-being.”

We are grateful for the support of the Environment Agency who sponsored the development of this guidance. Our thanks also go to those partners and members who provided case studies and gave feedback on early versions of the publication.
