Andrew Bruce

Associate, East Sussex County Council

Andrew currently holds the post of Policy and Service Development Officer - Direct payments, at East Sussex County Council. He has responsibility for developing independent living initiatives for adults eligible for social care services, and is also helping to lead the implementation of the Government’s “Putting People First” agenda.

Prior to this, Andrew spent over 25 years working as a Human Resources and Equalities professional, holding a number of senior appointments in both the private and public sectors. These included Shell International Oil, the Financial Services sector, the NHS, and the Land Registry. 

Between 1993 and 1999, Andrew also successfully set up and ran his own Training Consultancy focusing on Diversity and Equality issues. He was invited to become an Associate of the Employers Forum on Disability in 1996. Andrew continues to use his extensive management experience and expertise to advise and support other organisations, including Brighton and Hove Council, where he has led their Disability/Equality training programme since 2005.

Andrew has spent much of his time promoting and campaigning locally and nationally for the social inclusion of disabled people, and was the Chair of East Sussex Disability Association between 2000 and 2005. During this time Andrew led the organisation successfully through major funding challenges, and continues to be busy supporting his local ESDA branch.

Andrew lives in Eastbourne, East Sussex but his work takes him all over southern England. He is an avid sports fan, and takes a keen interest in community and professional theatre, and is an established director at the Stables Theatre, Hastings.
